Community Builds

Throughout the year, scattered legacy doors have been gathering signatures and messages in honor of former President Jimmy Carter, tributing his decades of service and dedication to Habitat that have inspired generations of affordable housing advocates.

The doors have been featured in five Triangle ReStore locations and at several events throughout Habitat Wake’s 40th year, showcasing the community’s collective dedication to building homes, communities and hope.

As Habitat for Humanity of Wake County celebrates 40 years of building homes, communities and hope, one long-standing partnership stands out: the Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter at NC State University. From its beginnings, the chapter has been a strong force in engaging students by spreading awareness and facilitating connections to Habitat’s mission through transformative projects. 

A Vision Takes Root 

Today, we had the privilege of doing something special. Volunteers from Military Missions in Action joined us on-site to work on a home preservation project for a fellow Johnston County veteran. Ralph, who has lived in his home for over 15 years, needed some help restoring his back and side deck. This project is part of Habitat Wake’s mission to complete 80 home preservation projects this year, and partnering with Ralph as part of our Season of Service made it even more meaningful.

This fall, Habitat Wake is proud to celebrate our veterans through a Season of Service. From September 11 – December 7, we will bring together veterans and their allies for multiple Veterans Build events aimed at honoring our service members, fostering community engagement and raising awareness of the specific housing challenges faced by the veteran community. 

Habitat for Humanity International is a global Christian housing ministry. At home dedications all over the world, we have a tradition of presenting a Bible to the homebuyers.

We have this tradition because the founders of Habitat started this ministry based on what they read in the pages of the Bible.​​​​ They were convinced that Jesus was radically inclusive, ​​​​​​and so should we be.  

This June, amid the flurry of Home Builders Blitz, an unexpected reunion unfolded. Among the many subcontractors coming out that week was Tyleam Edwards and his insulation crew. But this wasn't his first time stepping onto a Habitat for Humanity site.

As Pride Month concludes, we look back on efforts made by organizations in our area to support and uplift LGBTQ+ communities. This year, we wanted to emphasize Habitat Wake's dedication to being an inclusive organization and supporting affordable housing for people of all backgrounds. From volunteer build days to community outreach and networking events, this has been a Pride Month to remember!

During the week of June 13-20, Habitat Wake partnered with builders from around Wake and Johnston counties to bring homes from frame to finish for four local families in just seven days through Home Builders Blitz!

🏡✨ 22 years ago, Home Builder's Blitz was born right here in Wake County. What started as a local initiative quickly ignited into a national movement, fueled by the passion of our community's builders. We recently had the honor of sitting down with the visionary behind it all, our very own Tom Gipson. We couldn't help but reminisce about all the countless memories and lives touched by the Blitz over the years.
