Habitat Wake’s Home Builders Blitz brings together local professional builders, construction experts, vendors and sub-contractors for one week to build safe, affordable homes. The 2018 Home Builders Blitz was held June 4-8 in the East College Park Community near downtown Raleigh. Builders Blitz began in 2002, when local custom home builder, visionary and Habitat Wake Advisory Board Member, Tom Gipson, recruited 12 builders to construct one house each in a five-day period. Tom asked the builders to donate the labor, secure the assistance of subcontractors, and seek donations of the needed materials, from frame to finish. The results were astounding: 12 homes were completed in just five days. In 2006, the Home Builders Blitz became a national model. To date, 95 new, affordable homes have been built in Wake County through the Home Builders Blitz program. Nearly 1900 homes across the country have been built during the Home Builders Blitz.
This year, seven local builders joined us in East College Park to build three new, affordable homes. These homes are part of the City of Raleigh's neighborhood revitalization efforts. The homes have unique features such as 9-foot ceilings, large front porches, brick foundations and extra architectural details.
