Publix Super Markets Charities donates $100,000 to preserve affordable homes through Habitat for Humanity of Wake County

RALEIGH, NC (Jan. 11, 2023) – Publix Super Markets Charities (PSMC) is donating $100,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Wake County’s home preservation program as part of a nation-wide effort to support organizations that provide housing and shelter services, including 125 Habitat for Humanity affiliates.

Since 2015, PSMC has donated more than $43 million to nonprofits that build homes and provide emergency shelter and transitional housing.

“Publix Super Markets Charities has a demonstrated commitment to building strong communities, and we are grateful they have invested in Habitat Wake’s preservation work,” said Patricia Burch, Habitat Wake CEO. “Their gift will allow us repair and rehabilitate more homes in Wake and Johnston counties, and in turn help prevent the displacement of local families.”

Habitat Wake’s home preservation program partners with homeowners who can't afford to complete the repairs necessary to keep their home healthy and accessible. Services have ranged from minor repairs, such as painting and caulking, to major repairs, such as deck/stair replacements and roof replacements. These repairs not only make homes safer, they also ensure that homeowners are not forced to sell their homes by mounting maintenance costs. This helps stabilize existing communities and maintain affordable housing stock.

“We’re proud to continue our support of Habitat for Humanity affiliates and other nonprofit organizations helping people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity throughout Publix’s operating area,” said PSMC Executive Director Kelly Williams-Puccio. “Having a place to call home offers individuals and families hope and stability while also creating stronger communities and neighborhoods. We remain committed to continuing the legacy of our founder, George Jenkins, by doing good, together.”
