Habitat for Humanity of Wake County announces the Pope Leo campaign
Raleigh, NC (October 25, 2025) – Habitat for Humanity of Wake County is proud to launch the Pope Leo Village campaign this October. This new, multi-city initiative is sponsored and inspired by an anonymous donor honoring Pope Leo’s commitment to serving others. The aim of the Pope Leo Village is to engage young people and activate the next generation of volunteers.
Located near several major Universities in The Triangle, Habitat Wake aims to mobilize students and young adults to help build 45 new townhomes in Raleigh’s Old Poole neighborhood. The Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter at NC State University will join Habitat Wake on Oct. 25 to kick off the campaign with a day of volunteering.
“As the housing crisis continues to grow nationally and locally, the next generation will face significant challenges in pursuing homeownership,” said Patricia Burch, CEO of Habitat Wake. “Young people today want to be a part of the solution, and partnering with Habitat is a great way to get involved. We are excited to participate in a nationwide effort to engage young volunteers and mobilize alongside other Habitat Affiliates.”
In the coming months, local faith organizations and student groups will be invited to join in this campaign and help expand access to affordable homeownership in Wake and Johnston counties.
Habitat Wake’s goal for this project reflects the words of Pope Leo, “In that service to others, we may find that, coming together in friendship, building up community, we too can find true meaning in our lives.”
