A hand up, not a hand out

Sweat equity is the "sweat" homebuyers contribute in exchange for a safe, affordable home. Homebuyers must complete 200 hours of sweat equity prior to closing on their homes. Homebuyers show their commitment to partner by completing 10 homeownership classes, participating in the construction of their home and the homes of their neighbors, working with staff in the Habitat Wake ReStores, greeting guests at the Habitat Wake administrative office, providing hospitality to construction volunteers, and volunteering with our partner agencies. Children can also contribute to sweat equity by earning good grades! Sweat equity is an integral part of Habitat Wake's program and philosophy. In addition to sweat equity, homeowners pay closing costs and make monthly mortgage payments.
