President Carter

It was announced Wednesday that Habitat's most famous volunteer, former U.S.President Jimmy Carter, has been diagnosed with cancer.  We ask everyone to lift up President Carter, his wife Rosalynn, and their family in your prayers.

President Carter initially volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in 1984 at a project in New York City and he has continued by giving one week of his time to Habitat each year since directly building over 4,000 homes alongside families in need.  Of course, his legacy at Habitat extends much further as Habitat was a small unknown ministry before President Carter signed on.  His association tracks directly to a period of huge growth and visibility for Habitat. Habitat for Humanity CEO Jonathan Reckford spoke to MSNBC yesterday about President Carter's  deep involvement with Habitat and his active, charitable life.deep involvement with the non-profit organization and his active, charitable life

I had the privilege of heading up the Carter Work Project in 2003 while working with Habitat for Humanity International and witnessing first hand the generous heart and true compassion of his demonstrating what it means to be a servant leader.  I also stood by proudly when each of my three kids received their first and second place trophies from President Carter after running in the annual Plains (GA) Peanut Festival 5K race.

President Carter is a strong and determined individual.  Thanks for lifting him up in prayer.
