Our Force of Habitat team is made up of skilled volunteers with a lifetime of construction experience. These dedicated individuals lead our volunteer teams and support our builds from start to finish. They are truly the driving force behind every Habitat build. Meet some of our Force of Habitat Volunteers:
Dave Lucella
Dave began volunteering with Habitat Wake in February 2025 after relocating from South Carolina. With nearly 100 volunteer instances and more than 400 hours accumulated over such a brief time, both his dedication and bright energy shape the foundation of what it means to be a leader. You can typically find Dave hard at work with the Shop Guys and the construction sites. He also recently joined the FOH Advisory Council in 2025 and works hard to contribute improvements for the rest of the leaders. Dave ensures tasks are completed to the highest standard. His main goal in supporting volunteers is to ensure they have an amazing experience.
“I see my role more as leading the volunteers and making sure they have a quality and fun learning experience while they are donating their time and effort…I have come to enjoy doing the large group wall builds and seeing how quickly the inexperienced volunteers are able to learn and become proficient in the wall assembly and nailing.”
Ashley Jermuysk
Ashley has a long and rich history with Habitat Wake, having been involved in volunteer activities for 11 years. Before joining the FOH team, she volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in college and enjoyed an enriching experience. After moving to the Triangle, and spotting a notice in her church bulletin about a volunteer opportunity, she met some great long-time volunteers, superintendents and AmeriCorps who were happy to show her the ropes.
“It was always nice to feel like I accomplished something (even if it meant putting up a wall of siding three times to get it right).”
Having participated in over 240 events and amassing over 1,400 volunteer hours, Ashley’s impact has likely touched hundreds of volunteers and community partners. When working with these volunteers, she tells them never to be afraid to ask questions.
“Getting the job done fast is not as important as getting it done correctly. It's much easier to do something right the first time than needing to fix it.” This level of consideration and detail that makes her an extraordinary addition to the FOH team!
Rick Condit
Rick began his journey with Habitat for Humanity as a volunteer in Austin, Texas. Upon joining Habitat Wake, he became one of the original Shop Guys, where he helps to build fundamental components for wall build events and create new templates for Habitat Wake’s house plans. Rick has been volunteering with Habitat Wake for over 16 years.
“I’ve always enjoyed the work and the joint effort with others.” With over 1,200 volunteer hours and 230 events to date, and after driving thousands of nails, he is a wealth of knowledge and skills! His best advice to volunteers?
"Take the time to do the job safely and carefully as if you were building your own house.”
To all of our amazing Force of Habitat volunteers: thank you! Your hard work and dedication are invaluable to Habitat's mission and we couldn't do it without you! Thank you for continuing to build homes, communities and hope with us.
