Getting Started
- Carefully review all of the information below.
- Fill out the individual Vounteer Interest Form. The form gets you on our email distribution list and allows you to sign up for other volunteer opportunities.
- After filling out the form, you just need to check This Week's Build Schedule the week you want to work, and contact our Volunteer Services Manager at volunteer@habitatwake.org or 919.833.1999 x223 to let us know you are coming. Complete details and directions are on the schedule and are updated each Tuesday by 5PM. Please let us know if you have construction skills or experience.
Only in rare cases will Habitat contact you to volunteer for construction—it is up to you to contact us or check the online schedule when your schedule allows you to volunteer.
Important Information
We work every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. We begin work at 8:30AM on Saturdays, 9AM on weekdays. We usually finish by 4PM. You can also start at 12:30PM and work the afternoon shift only, but please notify the Volunteer Services Manager.
- Please be on time and plan to work at least 4 hours.
- Bring lunch and water or something else to drink.
- Bring basic tools: Work gloves, hammer, nail apron or tool
belt, measuring tape, and pencil are useful for most workdays.
The online schedule will have specific tools for each workday.
Tools are not required but it is very helpful if you can bring the
basics. - Wear clothes that can get dirty and that are right for the weather.
- Wear boots or sneakers. No sandals or open-toed shoes.
- Be sure to clean up all tools and materials before you leave.
Youth 16 to 17 will need a Parental or Guardian Consent Form to work. Youth 16 to 17 can only volunteer if there is 1 adult per 5 youth present on the worksite. Youth under 16 cannot be present on a work site, even if they are not working.
