Power of 7 Missions
In 2007, seven churches of the United Methodist Church Conference in western Wake County made a promise to one another: bring hope to a family in need.
In May 2008, after months of planning, the churches produced Habitat in the Park, a mega yard sale intended to raise funding to sponsor a home with Habitat Wake. From food, fellowship, fun and shopping, this event had it all – yard sale, live auction, entertainment, bake sale, craft sale, plant sale and rain barrel sale. The tremendous effort raised more than $24,000!
- "These churches are bringing the mix of prayer, funds and labor needed to give a family a hand up," said Veronica Bitting, Habitat Wake's Faith & Community Relations Manager. "Habitat's ministry is based on the conviction that to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ we must reflect Christ's love in our own lives by loving and caring for one another. Our love must not be words only—it must be true love, which shows itself in action."
Partners
Habitat Wake is grateful to the seven partnering churches who are engaging in our mission to make safe, decent, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action:
Circle of Christ United Methodist Church, Garner United Methodist Church, Holland United Methodist Church, Holly Springs United Methodist Church, Layden Memorial United Methodist Church, St. Andrews United Methodist Church & Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
- "The people of these generous congregations are caring and compassionate," said Veronica. "As they discover the benefits of our hands-on opportunity to put faith into action, I hope that they will continue to grow in their desire to serve God."

Previous Enthusiam Paved the Way
A few years ago members of St. Andrews United Methodist Church (one of the seven local United Methodist Churches that makes up the Power of 7 Missions) held a similar yard sale that had fantastic results. Read their tale of teamwork that brought the congregation together to help a family in need in Garner.
