N.C. Realtors Raise Walls on Habitat Home Earmarked for Gulf Coast Family

On Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at the NC Farmers Market the North Carolina Association of Realtors® (NCAR), Habitat Wake construction staff and Habitat Wake AmeriCorps constructed the walls for a house that will become home to a family in Lacombe, LA. The walls built in Raleigh arrived by flatbed trailer on Friday, October 5 in the Gulf Coast town where they will be sheathed and connected. In January, a team of 15 to 25 Realtors® from North Carolina traveled to the Louisiana town for a week to complete the home construction in collaboration with East St. Tammany Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat for Humanity International's Operation Home Delivery program, through the "House-In-A-Box" concept, helps low-income families in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Alabama affected by the summer 2005 storms build homes as part of the region's long-term reconstruction. By the summer of 2007, the organization expects to have built 1,000 houses along the Gulf with assistance from thousands of volunteers outside the region who will build and ship walls. Each of the nation's 54 state and territorial Realtor associations are sponsoring and building a new home in the Gulf Coast region.
Habitat Wake, Realtors® throughout Wake County and the NCAR regularly collaborate on community projects. Home Builders Blitz 2006 was the most recent project. Habitat Wake appreciates the continued support of area Realtors® !
