How Can Your Civic Group Sponsor a Habitat Home?
Transforming Lives and Communities
Habitat homeowners achieve long-term improved wealth and well being through the unique partnership opportunities that Habitat provides. To qualify for a Habitat home:
- Future homeowners must have a compelling need for housing and a strong willingness to partner with Habitat.
- Habitat does not give houses away – all homeowners must invest a minimum of 250 “sweat equity” hours on their house or other Habitat houses.
- Homeowners pay a $1,250 down payment and qualify for a zero-percent interest mortgage. Mortgage payments help Habitat build more homes for people in need.
By promoting community partnerships, self-sufficiency, and homeownership, Habitat for Humanity has built more than 260 homes in Wake County and more than 200,000 homes around the world for people in need of safe, decent, affordable housing. Our goal in Wake County is to build our 300th house in 2006.
Building a Habitat Home Helps Build a Healthy Organization
- Members get the satisfaction of directly changing the lives of people in need.
- Members pull together as a team to help each other reach a common goal.
- Your group gets positive exposure in the community.
- You build a tangible asset that will continue to benefit the family and the community for years to come.
Build Locally and Build Globally
Your group can choose to support global building as well as Wake County Building
Habitat for Humanity International builds houses worldwide. Donate an additional ten percent of your sponsorship amount and change lives here and across the globe. You can choose the country or region from among 100 countries where Habitat is active.

Find the Right Level of Participation For Your Group
- Civic and professional groups of all sizes can participate.
- 100% of your donation goes to the direct costs of building your sponsored home.
- If your group cannot sponsor an entire house, Habitat will find financial and/or volunteer sponsors to partner with you or you can find your own sponsor partners. Corporations, churches, civic organizations, and individual donors frequently work together on houses.
