Recycling at ReStore
Next time you're rummaging through your shed or house to gather items to donate to the ReStore, pack up your recycling. You can drop off your cans, glass, plastic containers, newspaper, mixed paper and carboard at our City of Raleigh Recycling Drop-off Center Tuesday - Saturday during store hours. The bins (including one for the Cans for Habitat program) are behind the building across from the donation docks.
Our ReStore helps the environment by re-channeling good, usable building materials into use. Now a City of Raleigh recycling site, the ReStore will expand efforts to keep everyday materials out of landfills.
- “We’re known for diverting thousands of tons of materials,” said John Stees, director, ReStore operations. “Our recycling bins fit well with our business concept. With this convenience we will attract more people to our ReStore as well as continue promoting good stewardship for the environment.”
The ReStore innovatively collects new and used building materials from community donors then sells the donations at discount to the public. For fiscal year 2007, the Habitat Wake ReStore and DeCon program generated nearly $350,000 in support of Habitat’s homeownership program—the single largest income source.

- “Operating a successful ReStore – a place where people want to shop, donate and now recycle – further involves the broad community in our homeownership mission,” said Frank Westmeyer, treasurer of the board of directors for Habitat Wake. “Just like when you give your time to volunteer or send a gift, when you shop and donate you help build affordable homes.”
