DeConstruction Volunteers
DeCon volunteers perform partial and full-house deconstructions. The objective is to salvage usable materials such as hardwood floors, cabinets, plumbing hardware, architectural elements, doors, windows, and lumber.
This is done for two reasons:
- Salvaging provides inventory the Habitat Wake Restore. (look for the orange tags)
- Saving from demolition puts less waste in local landfills

Be a Habitat DeCon Volunteer
Working on a DeCon crew is a great stress reliever -- there are no measurement and the primary tool is a crowbar! You can learn valuable techniques for properly disassembling homes while preserving vintage materials and diverting waste from local landfills. Pictured at right is a crew from The Redwoods Group.
