Habitat Wake volunteers in Thailand

Thailand Join us in welcoming back two long time donors and three Habitat Staff members from a week-long stint with the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project in Chiang Mai Thailand!

During the week of November 15-20, donors Margrith and Kuruvilla Verghese joined staff members Pam Forsythe, Joel Lubell and Brad McHugh in building a home for Chiang Mai resident Duong Kamol. Working alongside Iowa Heartland Habitat, a few young Thai military students, and several other U.S. volunteers, the team laid a lot of brick and mortar, installed windows and doors, raised steel roof trusses, and installed roofing tiles. After some follow up crews finish up with electrical and plumbing, Duong’s home will be complete.

The Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project united volunteers and families in need of decent, affordable housing in the Mekong region. During the weeklong build, volunteers built with nearly 166 families in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and China's Sichuan Province.

We’re very proud of our local contributions to this effort. For photos and more information about the 2009 Carter Work Project, visit the project webpage.
