Callan Park

HUD grant funding covered the entire cost of the land acquisition.

Working hand-in-hand with five families in Cary, many generous people demonstrated by their actions that offering a hand up promotes self-reliance with caring. Habitat Wake is proud to have facilitated bringing together the families, businesses, faith groups, civic groups, volunteers, donors, architects and planners who built five homes in Callan Park.

With the concept of single family homes attached only by a storage unit, Habitat Wake used a modest parcel of land to build five homes in Cary. In March 2007, Habitat supporters joined the five families to dedicate these homes. 21 sponsors and 24 volunteer groups helped build these homes on Callan Park Lane. A few photos:

Project Partners

The Town of Cary has been an important financial partner for more than 15 years and has enabled Habitat Wake to build 37 homes in Cary (including these five new homes).

A key partner in this project, the Town of Cary provided funding of $205,000 through a Community Development Block Grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Grants and loans from local municipalities significantly increase Habitat Wake's capacity to build more houses because the funding helps purchase property and install the necessary utility infrastructure for development to begin.

Another important partner in this project was Planworx Architecture. This group of talented professionals balanced creativity, functionality and value to produce this incredible, high-quality design. Using the concept of single family homes attached only by a storage unit, Habitat Wake has been able to use a modest parcel of land to build five homes. As a national housing production leader among urban Habitat for Humanity affiliates, Habitat Wake is excited to have explored this new concept for building. In the future, this flexibility of design will enable Habitat Wake to continue growing our capacity to build more houses for hardworking, deserving families here in Wake County.
