Habitat Wake is committed to green building. As our CEO/President Kevin Campbell likes to say, “Green building doesn’t have to be expensive.”
Our building standards are driven by both a committment to being good stewards of the environment and to keeping homes affordable. Building safe and healthy homes helps families living on a modest income to pay a low-interest mortgage.
We are proud to be recognized as a 2013 National Green Building Standard Partner of Excellence, an award given by Home Innovation Research Labs to 46 partners nationwide for advancing green building in their communities and being committed to voluntary, third-party certification of high performance homes.
Since 2005, Habitat Wake has partnered with Advanced Energy SystemVisionTM to improve indoor air quality and keep family energy bills low. The program provides ongoing technical support to make sure our houses are healthy, safe, durable, comfortable and energy efficient.
We are members of the Green Home Builders of the Triangle, an organization that certifies houses as “green” according to guidelines established by the National Association of Home Builders. Green-certified houses are held to higher standards in six categories:
- Lot preparation and design
- Resource efficiency
- Energy efficiency
- Water conservation and efficiency
- Occupancy comfort and indoor environmental quality
- Operation, maintenance, and education
