Tony
In April of 1998, Tony was a student at Auburn University when he survived a tragic car accident. Tony suffered a traumatic brain injury. For years, he fought to regain his independence. After living in a series of hospitals, group homes and boarding homes, Tony was approved to build his Habitat home in July 2009.
Living independently again is a hard fought dream come true for Tony. He built his home in Cary, as part of Habitat Wake’s seven unit townhome complex Falcone Point. He is employed by the Alexander Family YMCA in Raleigh, where he has worked for five years. “To be able to help build, get to know my neighbors and help them build their homes, it’s given all of us a great appreciation. It is the biggest blessing from God to be able to move into a home I can afford,” Tony said.
“Tony’s enthusiasm and gratitude is boundless,” says Steve McCulloch, a house leader and member of Habitat Wake’s Board of Directors. “Anyone who knows Tony will tell you that he always has a smile on his face and more positivity that anyone you’ve ever met. It is a privilege to have worked with him on his home.”
