"We are more than just neighbors."
Grace
In 1997, my husband and I lived in a 2 bedroom trailer that was falling apart. Our son was 4 years old and our daughter was 3. We submitted an application and several months later, by the grace of God, we were chosen to become part of the Habitat for Humanity family.
Over the years, we’ve met wonderful, wholesome neighbors. We are more than just neighbors. There is a willingness to help each other in time of need. We have rallied and pulled together in times of death, illness, and financial need.
Now, thirteen years later, my son and daughter have made friendships that will last a lifetime. We cherish the neighbors’ kids like they are our own.
Also, being a Habitat Homeowner gives you the "I can do it" attitude. After all, I did build my own home. So replacing a toilet, faucet and heating element seem like just part of home repairs my husband and I can do ourselves.
In this economy it is great to have a decent, interest free mortgage and to know it will be paid off in three more years. With so many people without homes, I feel secure in knowing I have a roof over my family's head.
We have been very blessed to have been given the opportunity to be Habitat Home owners. We are very thankful and no matter where our future takes us we will always have a deep appreciation for the Habitat for Humanity mission and what it can do for this country. I hope many others have this opportunity.
