Alecia

I initially found out about Habitat at a community fair some many years ago. I was hesitant to submit my application for some reasons I can’t even explain! The impact Habitat has made on my life is.....a sense of stability for my children and myself. While I never moved around a lot, it has provided me with something that I can call my own.

The best thing about my home is the space - spacious enough for my two daughters and myself. Also, I like the sense of safety within my neighborhood . I'm the youngest homeowner amongst my Habitat neighbors, and I'm thankful that we really take care of and look out for one another. I'm currently a junior at Shaw University majoring in Social Work with a minor in psychology. Within five years, I hope to have obtained a masters in Social Work. I currently work for the Department of Health and Human Services with State government. I am the single parent of two daughters ages 10 and 16. Both are honor roll students and very active in their schools and within the community.

My biggest accomplishment was becoming a homeowner about eight years ago and making the decision to return to school. I've always instilled in my daughters the importance of a college education; therefore, I have to lead by example! My most memorable experience with Habitat has been the many wonderful people I've met and still continue to meet in addition to the lifetime friendships I've formed along the way!
