Homeowner Stories

Each household that partners with Habitat has a compelling story to share. Many of our homeowners are the first in their families to own a home. Others are refugees from Asia or Africa who have escaped brutal civil wars and in coming to the United States have had to take entry-level jobs because their prior professional credentials were not acknowledged or accepted. And for others, a home allowed them to escape from an inadequately heated rental home, a trailer with collapsed floors, or water/sewage problems that a landlord never addressed. But for all of our households the positive effects of a stable home and an affordable mortgage payment seems to be a stepping stone for both the adults and children to go on and achieve even more both at work and in school.

Habitat encourages diversity and does not discriminate by race, religion, culture, ethnicity, sex, handicap, national origin, disability, age, marital status, or sexual orientation.
