Habitat Holiday Home Tour

The Habitat Holiday Home Tour celebrates the achievements of the families that have moved into affordable homes through partnerships with volunteers and donors. The event includes a tour of a vibrant Habitat for Humanity neighborhood hosted by Habitat families. Following the tour, guests convene for a party at the Habitat ReStore. 42nd Street Oyster Bar caters the dinner. The Greg Gelb Swing Band plays jazz.

Held annually the Sunday before Thanksgiving, it has become a Habitat Wake tradition. To defray costs, generous sponsors underwrite the event and local restaurants donate food and beverages. Due to this gracious support, the funds raised via the event go directly into building homes and supporting families.

"Habitat connects those who have something to give with those who have needs," said John L. Cramer, president of the board of directors for Habitat Wake, addressing the crowd. "For donors, it's a very transforming gesture to enable families to have a very basic need: safe housing. I've seen Habitat parents change, too, as they build their houses alongside volunteers. For them, it's a time of growing confident in their abilities and feeling the warmth of your community's embrace."

Habitat Holiday Home Tour 2007

The 7th Annual Habitat Holiday Home Tour was held Sunday, November 18, at our new facility at 2420 Raleigh Boulevard.

The event included a tour of Dowling Ridge, where Habitat hosted the 2006 Home Builders Blitz and (at the time) had built six homes with volunteers and had another six homes under construction.

There was a silent auction for a beautiful Dowling Ridge streetscape watercolor (below) by Habitat Wake volunteer Meredith Kittrell.

Habitat Holiday Home Tour 2006

The 6th Annual Habitat Holiday Home Tour was the final party held at our warehouse on Alwin Court. The evening began with a group tour by bus of Habitat homes at Idlewood Village in Raleigh. After the tour, while enjoying heavy hors d'oeuvres, guests had an opportunity as part of our Build-a-House Auction to make gifts or pledges to purchase house parts for a Habitat home -- framing packages, doors, windows, bedrooms, roofs. It was a virtual purchase for changing real lives.
