Green Building
In addition to building affordable, energy-efficient homes, Habitat Wake is expanding our commitment to green building. We've joined the Green Home Builders of the Triangle, an organization that certifies houses as "green" according to guidelines established by the National Association of Home Builders. Green-certified houses are held to higher standards in six categories:
- Lot preparation and design
- Resource efficiency
- Energy efficiency
- Water conservation and efficiency
- Occupancy comfort and indoor environmental quality
- Operation, maintenance, and education
Habitat Wake is currently building its first green-certified home in downtown Raleigh. Over time, more and more homes will meet green standards as we work toward increased environmental responsibility and sustainability.
In 2005, Habitat Wake adopted the Advanced Energy SystemVisionTM program, improving indoor air quality and keeping family energy bills low. The program provides ongoing technical support to make sure our houses are healthy, safe, durable, comfortable and energy efficient.
